In 1988, timothy zepp the founder of amp (ADVANCED MARINE POWER), started a research and development company named Jersey cylinder head, in a small building in sewell, NJ. he specialized in the precision airflow development and the design of coordinated induction systems for competition engines. after being contracted by different race teams, engine builders, and cylinder head companys for his air flow and horse power capabilities, he started building race engines for his own customers. early in the year 1992, Timmy then added, TIMOTHY JOHN RACING ENGINES, as a subsidiary of JERSEY CYLINDER HEAD INC, where he specialized in engines for drag race, circle track, marine, and mud class racing. his engines quickly became noted for their reliability and their race winning power. he then expanded his facility, adding a state of the art computerized dyno cell, a computerized cam checking machine, a three station head porting room, a complete welding area for aluminum and cast iron repair, a three station separate engine assembly room, and a complete hines balancing area for cranks, camshafts and rotating assemblies. after holding numerous track records, 2 consecutive world championships, national speed records and several local races won with his engines and components, he started designing and engineering marine engines. he now offers the boat industry the same reliability and race winning torque and horse power that has made him recognized and well respected in the custom race engine building business.
Every engine that has the amp logo are proven and tested combinations. each specific engine is engineered with internal parts that are designed to support the torque horse power and rpm's well beyond the engines operating range. every engine offered by advanced marine power is hand assembled, then tested on our computerized dyno cell. we simulate throttle position and engine load the same way that the engine will be used out on the water. we hold the engine for extended periods of time under load, and monitor exhaust temps, fuel curves, air fuel ratio's, torque, horse power, and record numerous other imperative engine information. we then look at the recorded data and make the necessary tuning changes to make sure the engine is safe and reliable before getting shipped to our customers. that is how we know our engines will give unbeatable performance for years to come.
